13th District Coast Guard announced that the unit was scheduled to perform their Bangor tactical, security, and weapons training exercises on the Hood Canal.
During the exercises, maritime force protection personnel will fire blank rounds for weapons training. Coast Guard has been assured that the empty round not projectiles and no single person will have a shot at them. However, live fire and explosion would mimic real engagement.
"I doubt that the exercise would be in a location that is easily viewed by the public, they don't want to incite panic on the kind of person who does not know that it was just training," said Petty Officer Eric Chandler, 13 district public affairs officer.
Petty Officer Chandler explained that the coast guard be careful about disclosing the exact location of their vessels crew protection security.
Specific locations on an exercise in Hood Canal can also change depending on the weather influences.
